That sir and ma’am shit is usually remenants of old southern families in the US.And even then that comes from people who either were soldiers or, used to be slaves. Besides that’s it’s never been a loving endearment,it’s meant to exude the fact that, the parent wants you to know that their position is higher than yours. Mom/Dad is more personal.
you do realize your experience & argument is irrelevant to a story set in an historical/fictional country with different cultural perspectives & values right. & i imagine it's loosely based off of china/korea's past hierarchy that has nothing to do with the u.s. not to mention, you compared the way they address each other with a negative connotation.
You do realize a body of, work can have connotations from any place even if the main setting is somewhere else right? I just made a guess based off what I knew.
Because I do believe it has a negative connotation. And there is nothing wrong with mentioning an alternative point, that you could have seen in something. You and this other person act as if, I’m attacking what they said. 2 points can be true. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
People be having a fucking problem with Taeheo not calling his parents mom and dad or some shit... But yall don't say shit when people out there call their parents sir and ma'am when speaking to them.

Or even other family dynamics like calling them by a different title, I.e the queen and kings children to their parents.
This is just a different family dynamic. I love that both parents are loving and affectionate, and are yet strict to discipline their kid.
