They didn't. If i recall correctly, the flashbacks now are supposed to be about how she is in a coma and her family are still milking her for money with 0 regard for her actual well being

I wonder if her old previous family (present/modern day) actually cared for her. at least one of the brother? cuz he looked like he was the only one that ran to her when she was gonna die ;-; still it doesnt justify the hell she went through. but i hoped that one of them really did cared
