Ares is dead, but he died way before the hero went to school. Ares and the hero(Realname Zack) are cousins. Ares really was talented with magic and swords. Ares and Zack traveled to the capital together but they got attacked by demons and ares died. Zack took ares name and worked hard so that Ares would be remembered as a Hero. After the defeat of the demon king, he told his friends the truth and left. The princess was in love with Zack so she conducted interviews to try to get info to find him. This lead to her finding out the biggest secret of her family and mother who is a priestess. The royal family only have one daughter and they have the ability to regress when they die. The queen regressed many times and basically lived for 1000yr trying to defeat the demon king. She tried making alliances with other nations but failed. She tried choosing other heroes but they die really fast except for the mage cause he is very smart. She finally chose Ares and in the time line where he survived the demon he suicided right when he got to the capital. She finally chooses Zack because in most timeline she always sees him fighting hard. After all was revealed the queen told the princess where Zack was and they found him.
