yea technically he is hypnotized. but it's revealed that people who genuinely do care about penelope like calisto, reynold, Winter are unable to be completely hypnotized by yvonne. basically derek was an asshole who didn't care about penelope from the start, so yvonne just needed to push him a little bit.

Reynold was hypnotize too tho but dev resistance after this event. I guess Penelope dying spiked his care for her. I think Yvonne got him initially because a part of him wanted to believe Yvonne was his sister and he had slight doubt that Penelope coldness towards Yvonne could be a problem. Note that Yvonne brainwashing only exaggerate neg feelings to extreme and make doubts seems reals.
