Spoiler
She’s the one who originally instigated Ines’s tragedies. If she had never ruined Ines’s life in the first place, Ines would have never fallen into Oscar’s hands and she would have never lived repeated lives. So, in a way, she’s the original villain and not Oscar. Her role in this current timeline will be to attempt the exact same tragedy she delivered to Ines in the original life. Basically, this current and final timeline is to settle old scores between Ines and her enemies.
Spoiler
She hates Ines in every timeline since they were young girls. She’s twisted. That’s why some dislike her more than Oscar. It all started with her inferiority complex towards Ines whom she accuse of pitying her because she lost her parents early. She’s also jealous that Ines had her parents and she’s the highest ranking girl and Oscar wanted Ines. Yet, even when Ines rejects Oscar and marry elsewhere, she wants to punish Ines for rejecting Oscar. Let’s just say she’s a twisted fanatic. She never wants Ines to be happy.
Worse. Spoiler
She poisoned the supplements that Ines had been taking since she was 16 years old. To do this, she did it from the pharmacy level so she sacrificed other women to target Ines as well. Due to the poison, the children Ines gave birth to died when they were less than a year old and Ines became terminally ill. One day when Ines was paralyzed in bed and had lost her ability to talk, this terrible woman visited and revealed all of it to her. She gloated that she only wanted to make her infertile and she didn’t know that her handiwork would kill her children and Ines. She condescending told Ines that she came to ask forgiveness from her and Ines needs to forgive her because god won’t let Ines into heaven if she holds a grudge.
Honestly, the scene would make the reader’s blood boil. She even slaps Ines who couldn’t do anything to defend herself when she was lying there paralyzed in bed because of the terminal illness. She slapped Ines because Ines eyes covered how much she wanted to kill her because she just revealed she killed her chikdren. These are children whom Ines suffered a lot of grief over so it really hurt her heart to hear that they died because her supplements. After the vicious woman leaves, Ines actually got strong enough solely based on her desire for tevenge which she had her mother execute. Her mother delivered the revenge at a banquet where all the nobles were in attendance. She brutally stabbed the pregnant belly of this wretched women and killed her right there in the hall by hacking her to death. It was pretty gruesome.
Thankss for the revelation!!
Carcel become so afraid of Ines giving birth might be caused by this unrevealed memory. His instinct just naturally warn him about it.
Honestly I quite like the dynamic between Ines and her mom. While her mom is a gaslight, manipulative and narcissistic woman, I like how Ines can handle her. I know Ines' mom did that gruesome revenge is not actually because she feel the pain for Ines. It's most likely she did the revenge because that lowly woman dare to ruin her supposedly perfect family. Can't wait for that part in the manhwa ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
You hit the nail on the head about Carcel’s fear. It will actually be revealed that this is the case but he doesn’t know it. Spoiler
The way the author does the scene was soooo good. During the fight when Ines discovered the contraceptive, Carcel apologizes but also tells her that he doesn’t know why but he’s truly afraid of her giving birth and dying. As soon as he says this, Ines gets a flashback of waking up after giving birth to their first child in the original timeline. Carcel was at her bedside half-crying because she was unconscious for three days and she just kept bleeding. The bleeding is a result of the effects of the poisoned pills but they didn’t know it at the time.
Regarding Ines’s mom, she loves Ines in her own twisted way. Her mother has mental issues. Also, Valeztena believes in blood debts. Villainess had boasted to Ines that she was poisoned through her mother’s own hands so of course that makes it like Olga killed her own daughter just by sending her the supplemental pills.
To be honest, the characters are written like human beings so they are very nuanced. This applies to Ines’s mother as well. She’s complicated just like Ines is complicated. Ines is actually a very difficult person to deal with. That’s probably why the author gave her an easygoing ML that complements her difficult personality. She gave Carcel an extremely difficult time in their first life. He was a younger husband then too so he had to learn how to deal with her difficult personality. Thankfully they married at an older age in this current timeline and he wasn’t as exposed to her early in life so his personality isn’t as dark as it was in the original life. Author said he’s the darkest in the original life too.
Spoiler
The first timeline is very complicated. She and her mom were close to the point of destruction. Her mother used to blackmail her emotionally and physically abuse her. Ines, as a little girl, felt compelled to stay next to her mother because her mother filled her head with lies about how her father took her brother from her and she’s the only one she has left and she would tell Ines she’s the only one who loves her. She also used to abuse both kids and tell them if her husband found out she would kill herself since her life would change. Let’s just say their relationship was messed up yet they were the closest to each other.
Her mother even beat her because she was engaged to Carcel instead of engaged to the crown prince. When Carcel found out that he is apparently the inferior choice in her mother’s mind, he also found out that her mom would beat her because of this. Therefore, he thought he’s the one to blame for Ines’s abuse. Ines told him he’s not to blame. At the time they were only 13 and Carcel wanted to marry her asap so he could take her away from her mom. He hated her mother after that.
To give an example of the complicated stuff, when Ines first son died at almost 10 months old, she wrote to her mom for comfort and advice on how to carry on without her child. Her mother wrote back that she’s not the only one who has ever lost a child so she should basically suck it up and seduce her husband into giving her another child. One day Carcel accidentally read the letter and was so shocked by her mother’s response to her daughter’s grief. This is the kind of complicated stuff going on. Ines hated her mother eventually and didn’t care that her mother was imprisoned for killing the crown princess and her unborn baby. But when Ines’s father found out why his wife killed the crown princess, Ines did finally show some weakness about how the impact affected Valeztena and her father.
That’s the only timeline that Ines was closest to her mother. In the next timeline, since she was marrying the crown prince, her mother made sure not to beat her because it would scar her skin. Also, Oscar’s power made her mother not do anything that would harm the future crown princess. In this current timeline, we know Ines rebelled against her mother from a young age. So, the first timeline remains the timeline when she was closest to her mom. It was also the timeline that screwed Ines up so much mentally by her mother’s upbringing that she gave Carcel an extremely difficult time.
Spoiler
Ines’s mother is complex just like Ines is. Her mother has mental issues as well. Due to her past, Ines’s mother feels like she should have a lot of children for her husband. Instead of cherishing the two she was able to give birth to, she became dissatisfied with only two. Her husband realized his wife’s health was suffering and she was adamant about continuing to bear more children so he kind of stop sleeping with her. His wife then took that to mean he’s cheating. So when he’s in the capital attending court, his wife fills Ines’s head with all sorts of lies. Ines also thinks her father felt apologetic towards her mother for all the babies she lost so he was lenient with her. Quite frankly, Valeztena family is full of complicated people. Escalante people are more on the easygoing side.
Can someone spoil me more about Alicia??? Like what's her main role and her impact for the story
