Okay, I kinda get the point of this side story. It's to tie up the lose end of Jacob being alive (after having dealt with ML's brother). This is kind of a continuation of the role of Aragon and Jacob in the strife between the two nations. My guess is that this arc is to finally create some kind of truce, and the Arno household will likely be that bridge - formed by the (potentially) marriages between the vassals and these ladies.
I think will be some conflict with the Pope, who is the real heir of the trone of aragorn. There is something strange about him mariam
