LOL I forgot he was lvl 255 xD Goodness it's been ages since I read that chapter.
He is actually lvl 255 x how many ever times (forgot) he has reincarnated. That was one of the game mechanics. Every time you reincarnate, you go back to lvl 1 but you gain access to higher lvl skills or better stats bonus/ability to go above certain stats limits. I cant remember the exact details though.
