I was fearful that this would be another regurgitated version of SL but honestly, it's holding well on its own. There are obvious references and callbacks but nothing that screams "We don't care about the plot just reread SL"
Our main character feels fleshed out and the backstory makes sense, he has similarities to his father but he also does stand alone as himself. The plot is refreshing as before we were fighting ourselves as the shadow monarch but it's time to put differences aside and come together This time, there are no siblings to look after and both parents are gone, so there's really nothing holding him back to earth if he is made to leave. All in all so far so good
