i think they didn't really care about the gay part, what they were confused about is that souma would like kuno , tbf, they've only seen kuno's silly shenanigans, he IS kinda stoopid, but like in a cute way, and souma is like this really dependable guy, if i wasn't a reader and was a classmate, i'd probably go "what, aside from him being pretty and kinda funny, do you see in him?" too
