Maybe the manhwa just didn't explain it better compared to the novel
I get her coming back to prevent war and the death of the duke. but wtf was the duke thinking? He knew he would get in serious trouble with that man for that but he did it anyway and didn't make any provisions or have someone from the north take his kid out of that orphanage? Like wasn't his kid the whole reason he has a connection yo her? Yet the moment she's in trouble, she becomes his first priority? With no increase in affection to semi- explain it away?
