I think the current Duke (not the FL's biological dad) married the FL's mum purely to claim the title as he could claim the FL as his heir.
My point was that when Arron died, Barron married FL mom just fine, he wasn't prevented from doing so because she was a commoner. Thus, the flashbacks say that the elders liked her very much. Hence why I don't get why Arron didn't marry her already.
