That ruined him for me. So selfish and fucked up. Relationship or not, that’s rape. Romanticized, but rape regardless. Whole novel is just male gaze purity culture, where Hestia is acting like sex isn’t mutual but she’s serving him and sacrificing herself for it. She doesn’t talk like it’s a mutually enjoyable thing. Personally, I don’t tolerate romanticized SA or unclear consent, as well as making women seem like they can’t enjoy sex. They always gotta be shy and refuse it but secretly “enjoy it”. Purity culture at its peak. Bad smut writing, disappointing that a woman wrote smth like that. It’s so male gaze.
Hestia kinda was. It’s a romanticized rape. Whole novel is very purity culture male gaze kind of sex. Personally, I don’t tolerate that kind of thing, but a lot of people seem into it. But at one point he just started to duck her without preparation whatsoever and she screamed at him to stop saying that she feels like she’s being torn apart, that’s how painful it was. He apologized but didn’t stop it. It’s rape no matter how u wanna disguise it. People just really romanticize non-consensual stuff. And this kind of novels make FL always seem like they can only “enjoy” it in secret but never clearly consent to it. As I said, purity male gaze culture. I think it’s just bad writing. It’s incredibly out of character for him to care so much about her and then do smth so cruel cause he feels like it. If you ever read Yaoi (it’s mostly written by straight women) or other mature webtoons you would notice a pattern of how much authors and readers romanticize and fetishize r*pe and non-con in general. I understand it if someone has trauma and it helps them cope, but in general I just find it gross and disappointing. Had to drop a lot of my favorite works cause they suddenly put in stuff like that
