Since the last part is a positive, with how he respects her as an independent person who can make her own decisions, and tries to help her the best he can. And while the other characters infantalise her, since a lot of the story is from his perspective, we know the story itself doesn't.
As a sidenote, imo this should apply to all people, no matter the age. Like, kids are people too but they rarely get treated like people/persons who can make their own decisions. Sure, kids don't know a lot and can make some dumbass decisions, but then the adult's job is to guide them in the right direction - treating them like idiots who know nothing will just make them feel like crap (even if the idea is dumb). But yeah, I know infantalisation is a huge issue with disabilities of all types, and it sucks ass.
People with mental health issues aren't necessarily childlike. Saying they are is a form of discrimination. You're saying they have no capacity to make their own decisions. The ML has given the FL a choice every single time
