There's always been 5 Owens. Actually, it's always been the same five Owens the entries story, as the artist hinted at the appearance of the others in an earlier chapter.

Beyond that, to be honest, I don't know I am not usually lost when I read BL but Owen's motivation for leaving, the whole freezing negotiation thing, I don't get any of that.
