That's your choice based on your experience, but:
1. Fan translations aren't always abandoned, actually most of them finish stories before officials even come out and the popularity of the full story brings officials, so I don't know know how many BLs you've read but clearly not enough.
2. Usually fan translations start before the officials and some stories don't even have officials so waiting for officials to catch up all the time is not only something you can always do but also basically stupid on a website like mangago.
Up to you if you read the fan translations, but don't complain when they get abandoned after the officials starts and you have to wait months to catch up. People like me that wait for the officials just enjoy the weekly official updates as it's our first time reading and we have no reason to complain about catching up delays.
You get no award for waiting for officials lmao. It's up to you if you want to miss on good stories because they have no official releases but I can't relate because unlike you I didn't start reading BL when it became mainstream.
I've been reading BL since a time when most online BL was either scanned or translated by scan teams. There was no "official update" it was just paper releases.
And even in those days, I complained when it was abandoned. Because when someone picks something up you trust them to keep going until the end, so ofc when they can't you complain about it and you're disappointed that's basic common sense.
So yes, I will keep NOT waiting for officials and finding gems AND complain when we are dropped like I have been for the past 12 years, meanwhile you can keep missing out on things and let others cry in peace.
Waiting for the time the official catch up to the translation
