I saved a certain amount of respect for the duke because of the mind manipulation premise but I give up. He's a fucking asshole and can get bent. He doesn't get to treat his childrens' lives like a competition where he's already picked out the winner, only to turn around and change his mind once the winner mildly disappoints him and the loser forfeits for his own happiness.
