If I can remember the novel clearly, the author made the father humiliated BUT during a scene that's life or death, he lets Killian decide and not push his own feelings/boundaries into the situation which is somewhat a decent growth but nothing major.
I think the ultimatum of the duke's character is humiliation because he was controlled
i think that not pushing feelings and boundaries is the literal bare minimum though... i mean decent growth for a character, but if im saying that that's already decent for the character then it goes to show how horrible of a person one is lol...
i just think humiliation isnt enough. i mean good on killian and edith for forgiving but personally its just not worth keeping him around after. i mean i would NOT want someone like him as a grandfather especially if thered be two kids, controlled or not... just very icky. idk why authors find it hard to just dispose of literal (verbal in killians dads case) abusers heh
the thing im pissed off at the most is
fathers like killians father in general media are just easily forgiven after some bullshit redemption arc... like im tired of the enji todoroki treatment can authors PUHLEASE give consequences to these trashy ass men. give me the no contact ending for once bro.
