I think the ml would be more likeable if we saw more personality and action from his pov Like he was v sad about her cutting her hair because he was worried about her place in society (the little comment from mc "oh yeah a woman's hair is her pride here" or whatever). He might just be viewing this as someone from the era a la that she wouldn't have anyone else in mind to marry and its better to be a married woman than not. He didn't know she had plans to move. While not wholly likeable, I think he's more realistic to the setting
