Well, he obviously works for his gangster uncle and didn’t expect to run into her now that he’s investigating why the incident happened. That’s why he pretended not to recognize her at first. He’s trying to keep her at arms lenght while he’s doing his gangster detective stuff and he’s now trying to seduce her since she keeps asking questions about the very thing he’s trying to protect her from.
