I'm also confused but what I understood was young boy who can transform into wolf is in the circus and is used and abused, a mobster sees him, uses his wolf form as a pillow, young boy gets shot protecting mob boss, gets taken to boss's house to recover, eventually tells boss he likes him, boss freaks out and chokes him, boy runs away only to find circus up in flames, he runs away with three other people. Flash forward to strangely modern times whereas before felt very old timey. Boy is adult now, works, finds out one of his friends is selling drugs to pay for sisters hospital bills, wolf boy follows this friend only to be sold off at a slave auction?????
