Just recently got into this story and tried google translating, did skip some parts. But from what I can piece together.
Squall was told by someone to give Mag a "sleeping potion." The intention was to "kidnap" Mag and bring her to another country. Then they would reunite later. But Squall was tricked and ended up poisoning her. It seemed like he had suspicions about something going wrong, but ended up being tricked into poisoning her anyway.
