tbh to me the only person who doesn't deserve the mc forgiveness is the duke, he was the one to bring her to his house, he was the one to neglect her and let the servant's treat her like trash, he was the one who never gave her any ounce of attention when she was a child and let her grow up to be rude, he was the one to let other nobles treat her like she isn't worth the dime of their time!! I agree. I think he took her in knowing she wasn't his child in order to protect her from whatever drama her Bio family is going through. I think he knew the mom and agreed to care for her child because someone hurt the family head. I think her Bio dad's coma was a plot whether political or family drama I don't know but the MC wouldn't be safe in that house. I don't know if the duchess is aware of this fact but it seems she made an agreement with either the Duke or the MC's mom not to get involved with the MC. The Duke is probably severe to all his children or at least appear fierce to them but it is worse for her because of how she is treated. Even is he acts the same ways with the boys they at least have a sense of belonging and others treat them as part of the family so it doesn't hit them as hard. I understand why the Duke and Duchess distance themselves from her but is it hard to keep your staff in check? Just that little act of not being mistreated by the staff would have gone a long way
