i mean, he's probably still grieving and in my opinion, he loves mabel as his daughter but of course he still sees his wife in her because they look alike. most relatives would really make comments like "you look like your mother" "you look exactly like your father" irl so i kind of get why he's seeing his wife when he looks at mabel.
he in general, is a somewhat good father. if we remove the hallucinations, we can see that he does care for mabel even on the earlier chapters. (it's been a long time since I've read it and only waits for updates) but in the earlier chaps, he gave mabel the title emperor to protect her cus yk someone was trying to take away mabel.
but it also makes sense tbh that he only cares for mabel because it's his late wife's daughter, i mean your wife is already dead so why not treasure her carbon copy? keke anyways your opinion is valid and it makes sense but i also want to place my opinion, have a good day:)
no like i totally get what you’re saying and he’s still better than those trashy fathers that neglect their kids when the wife dies, but my point is he needs to see mabel as his daughter and not as his wife’s carbon copy
and i think the reason why i find him weird is cuz of how he used to neglect oscar before mabel was born, why is there discrimination between mabel and oscar? cuz mabel is his dead wife’s daughter

Maybe because he loves Mabel's mother hence he cares more of her? Tho I think he also loves Oscar Or maybe because her mother is dead and Mabel is younger than Oscar? Maybe you forgot a bit of info about the dad loving oscar thingy. But, remember when he was about to apoint Mabel as the emperor he was so concerned about Oscar being left out or feeling neglected because of a sudden decision, he attended to Oscar's feelings and making sure he won't feel those feelings. It was a sign that also made me realize that he really does care about Oscar it's just, it's a different type of care than Mabel. Also, I think because Oscar has his mother with his side to feel a bit complete (like parental love and care) and Mabel didn't even knew her mother personally, I think this is also another reason with the difference of care they receive.
About the care Mabel received because she's the daughter of the dad's late wife, I have another opinion about that but your thoughts are still valid though.
yea i get it, but look at how he used to be indifferent towards the difficulty oscar had to face before mabel was born, he did not care how his son was depressed and burdened by the pressure put on him by his mother and uncle!
i think with the birth of mabel he softened and realised that he has another child, but he was pretty negligent before to a young child which in my opinion isnt something to forgive

i think the way the father always thinks of mabel’s mother whenever he’s with her, as if the only reason he cares for mabel is cuz of her mother, is really disgusting
like hear me out, even now when mabel was attacked, its evident he doesnt care that MABEL was attacked, but rather was angry that SIENNA’S DAUGHTER was attacked which is so sad cuz it makes it clear that the only reason he ‘loves’ mabel so much is cuz of her mother
this can also be proved by looking at how oscar was treated before mabel was born. the dude did not care what happened to his son, who was not sienna’s (⊙…⊙ )
