Love how you phrased it. Although it isn’t highlighted, Killian’s empathy for Edith shines greatly when he sees her interact with her father. He isn’t entirely sure what’s going on, but he is able to read her body language to know that *something* is up. I imagine that it’s because he knows from feeling something similar himself.
Not only did his family basically discard him as a political tool by marrying him off against his wishes (all just cause he was born second). They didn’t give a fuck when he was miserable but now that he actually started to love his wife and be happy about his fate - this is when they go “actually, don’t you want to divorce? she’s not useful anymore”. Like how much disrespect can you show your son? He had to sacrifice his life and love for this marriage and now you have the audacity to ask him if he just wants to dissolve it? He agonized over it and it’s THAT easy for you?
And after he ended up liking her, instead of supporting them both for somehow working it out, you choose to further prove to him how little you care about him? Sure, a war with a father-in-law is a bad PR but a woman is sold the moment she marries so she no longer has anything to do with that family. The best thing to do now would be to support your son and his wife so that they can withstand it with dignity. But instead you show them disrespect and undermine their position by indirectly bringing up divorce? Knowing what happens later it’s pissing me off even more.
