Not alone, in my opinion it's that the stakes aren't clear at all.
The second star or whatever possess her guard make zero sense and make the story... Meh. There's no real goal or direction the story is going toward and we don't really know if he is a real threat or not, it's not really well explained.
Also she's acting like the villain can just up and take her if he ever find her which he can't ? He can't even force her to use her power if she really refuse to and since she was adopted by a strong family there's nothing he can actually do ?
The logic of the story is bonkers.
