It's obvious that they both have died multiple times and regress to start over. That was hinted at when he said the bridge always fall and easily found her. It's clear that he wants to protect her not kill her. It seems like he could possibly be in love with her or like her a lot. The dad probably locked her up to keep her safe cause he knew someone would probably eventually coming to kill her. I was thinking maybe the ex fiancee was the killer or hired a killer cause it looks like he could benefit from her death but now I'm not sure if we even met the killer yet.
