What does it mean to be a saint?

Do they actually have holy power or they like spirt mages? Like when did animals become a part of this. I do remember Merlin briefly but he never appeared again.

Merlin is a holy beast, which is a common partner of the saintess in manhwas or a religious figure for the any holy figure with divine powers. Some manhwa would use spirits instead of holy beast.

In this manhwa Saintess aren’t the typical saintess we see in other manhwa’s where they have the ability to heal. They have the ability to open portals instead. I’m guessing they’re known as saints for opening portal cause of how much mana is need to do that, which they believe is a gift from God for having that ability. There isn’t any other ability like healing or the ability to conquer dark mana, but it might show later on since the FL didn’t have her powers until now, so she hasn’t unlocked her full potential.

I understand that. But it’s the way that the author set up the world building which makes no sense. I feel like the magic system should have been explained a long time ago. I’m okay with the divine animal because that’s seen throughout most religions. But if a saint is defined by opening a portal are they really a saint, or just a powerful mage? I wonder if mages are a thing in this world. Or why hasn’t the holy kingdom or the church reached out to her either. Like why even make her saint when her end goal is to open her own restaurant in this world. Everything just seems like a force and that’s my main problem.

Okay so I read some spoilers won’t mention here but I kinda understand where the other “Saintess” got her powers from. But the magic system still doesn’t make sense to me. Also now that I understand the story from the outside I feel like they didn’t need to make FMC a saint. There are other ways to go about it.
