I agree with you. I prefer complex anti heroes who learn to love their partners like their life depends on it. Rather than the one's who always had sunny days growing up. Complex heroes are the one's who'd choose their partner over anyone. People are just too scared to imagine that type of love so they prefer simpler less complex versions. ( ･﹏･)
Idk takes like this just reek no social consciousness to me. (And tbh this feels like a white person take). People don’t like him because he’s intent on keeping her as basically a pretty slave. Regardless of what the tradition of the country is, she is being forced to stay with him and marry, AND bear children which will eventually kill her. That’s like the first reason people don’t like him, he doesn’t genuinely care for her and only shows any "respect" when she listens to him. (Only time he showed he cared even the smallest bit was NOT killing her this recent chap)
Another reason people don’t like him is because he’s leading a fucking CRUSADE against the "barbarians" and trying to steal their land…. He is quite literally a colonizer. He is keeping the "barbarians" locked up and is torturing one while brutally murdering his friends. We literally saw the prince ELECTROCUTE someone to death. The very next chapter he releases these people onto a hunting field and kills them for sport as if they’re animals…..
I’m not gonna explain how this mirrors history, and even if the prince is tan how he’s exhibiting racist white ideals, but I am gonna say it’s DUMB AS HELL to say ppl are scared to like him bc we’re not complex enough for an anti hero…bitch I’m scared of you FOR liking him

This Crown Prince is struggling. This way of life is all he knows. He feels the best way to protect his empire is by doing what he is doing. I do not think it's the best way but that is his way. he knows he is not good but if you come out of your ideal Kdrama ML fantasy type, you would see he is trying to be good. Apart from Regria, NONE of his people fear him, not his guards, maids or even the people of the Empire. That says a lot.. He is no Tyrant just a Morally Grey character trying his best to not go insane because of their nature
As for Regria, she has seen his soul, he is not right, and he is seriously wound up. The CP knows that she does not love nor like him but feels he has to do his duty. He is a very COMPLEX character. The people who hate him are basing off the Novel spoilers and are basically jumping the gun. I am going by what I am seeing week to week and REFUSE to judge him by his supposed future actions i.e until I get there..
Agreed, people can't expect someone to change in a matter of seconds or days. The person might be feeling like their whole being is tearing up and remolding. It takes time, courage and a loooooot of endurance. A person is either a healer or a protector. Regria might be his healer and people need to make peace with this fact that the novel/manga can't always go the way they want. There would be no diversity and all stories will be bland and boring. If the story is not to your liking just skip it.
I might stand alone on this island ship BUT I do not hate the Crown Prince. I see him as complex, trying his fumbling and strictest to protect his kingdom. He is not always right but he means what he says and is somewhat good (as much as 1 can be good as a leader)
