some scenes in this book feels skipped so it's not uncommon to feel that way reading this bc since it's from a novel, some details from the bigger picture tends to get cut off despite having the potential to be significant to some readers. i just chalked up that part of them being slightly affectionate due to him being chosen by undine that one time mc was unconscious so maybe mc felt more at ease with him around since then lol
