the only thing I'm still confused by is: what was the lie? like, he wasn't getting paid to go out drinking or listen to his problems, those were all done at his own time was the lie that the dentist wasn't the only one? no one had defined the relationship, so there was nothing binding you to one another
i mean.. the glasses weren't really bought by him i guess that's the actual lie but he still felt betrayed when he learnt that he did the same things (dates, dinners, intimacy) for work maybe he felt like they weren't genuine things
