    We'll probably find out in the next chapters, but I noticed that after each cycle, when he dies, scars remain after his wounds, so something probably happened to his neck in a certain cycle. I COULD BE WRONG!

    it's repeated at least 20 times. we've only seen like 4 cycles... it hasn't happened yet.
