Or maybe they just met outside of the orphanage? On a public playground or something. They don't have to live together to be friends in childhood.
I'm more impressed with the fact that Laila wasn't repulsed by Camilla for having the wrong soul, the way everyone else seems to have been.
I saw people with the theory that Camilla and Laila met at the orpganage, but on the hunt competition arc when there was the explosion and Camilla hushed to her brother she said something like "I don't wanna be an orphan again" and he replyed that she was never an orphan so it means Camilla never went to an orphanage...
Maybe Laila knows another timeline that we aren't aware of yet....
