I did also think he got arrested or even got into an accident, but when I saw him coming back, I assume he is. I think he just brought souvenirs or get on some workshop/learning materials to learn new things to be able to run another business or something.
Sorry but the wife is at fault. I wouldn't come back too if I were him but you've gotta be realistic he'd either stuck somewhere due to lack of enough funds, lost, or even been arrested
