It's suspicious that only memories regarding Adam are erased, why was that singled out particularly? I think it could become a plot point later on with higher up corruption maybe.

Yup,yup. Seems like the perfect ability that politicians/ leaders / corrupt might both fear and want to exploit. This peaceful story start might lead to some very fiery climax.
