Sorry guys, I know this is totally unrelated but I am scared and can’t sleep. My hostel got robbed and a lot of rooms where broken into. Valuables stolen and girls threatened to be raped if they don’t comply. Luckily mine wasn’t. And for 3 nights now i can’t sleep. I’m constantly on edge. Is there anything y’all can suggest? I tried taking sleeping pills but I don’t think they’re working. Do I go for counseling? I still can’t shake the feeling that something bad is gonna happen every night. Im still traumatized.

I may not be helping here by asking the obvious, but y don't u consider changing the place of stay? The problem seems pretty serious to let it go. Pls report it to your warden or the police, or seek help from your gaurdians. If not then, try to remove the root of your problem that is fear.

I have a month to graduate. I can’t afford a new place. And everyone I know lives on the same street. Like you said. It’s fear and it comes at night. I don’t even know how my roommate sleeps but for me. I can’t. Even when the police came, the robbers had already left and had done quite the damage. I’m constantly on edge. Every little noise keeps me up or makes me scared. And I can’t stop replaying the whole incident over and over again. This whole robbery lasted for about 1-2 hours. From midnight.

It must've soo hard on u, I understand that ur afraid anyone wud be. I can't even fathom being in ur situation, ur brave for still being there, ur doing great. Fear is something that is forgotten easily, don't worry. As u said that u hav ppl u know living near ur street, if u trust them enough, y don't u move in with them since it's only a month's time? Or hav a good talk with ur roommate, if she agrees u can try sleeping on the same bed as ur frnd. As sleeping alongside someone u trust or someone u feel is strong or can protect u, makes u relaxed. That way u can rest. As for the robbers , there is no way they're gonna come back, in their pov, it'd be stupid to comeback. Atleast for a month or even more ur as good as safe in ur hostel than anywhere. They were cowards for threatening ur frnds as obv they ran away. So don't worry bcz of those losers. Try listening to music with earphones in high volume or listen to lectures bcz it'd soo boring u wudnt even know when u fell asleep!!

You can talk with the police and ask for them to guard your place, or ask them what security measures they took to prevent it from happening again. And counseling should help but your safety comes before the comfort so make sure your environment is safe first. When you feel secure enough, i'm pretty sure you can rest well. I hope everything gets better for you

Drink a cup of milk with honey. It helps losen your nerves. Also, I would personally put on comforting sounds. Not music, just like something calming. And I know it might be weird to suggest this, but I recently tried listening to the Qur'an, and surprisingly, it helps me calm down a lot. So idk if it'll work for you, but these were the most effective ways for me.

Thank you all so much for all your advice. I’m also thinking going back home for a bit. Maybe take a week long break. My school is in another city entirely. I will try to do some of the options you all have listed and see if I can sleep tonight. It’s 2am. And my eyes aren’t even tired. Hopefully a change in scenery would help too. And I’ll try counseling as well. Thank you so much I appreciate each and everyone of you for your concerns.
