Royalty and white deer don't have a choice but to be mated, but it doesn't really matter who they get mated to. If there are options in white deer, I don't see why the king wouldn't just make Alta and Toguto mate.
From what I remember it's not about them being a wolf and white deer, but just the fact that wolves are monogamous and once you find the one, you don't want to find anyone else and you stick by that one person. However, with the royal family it is not necessarily about finding the one or love or anything like that. Like Badoma (white deer lady) seems to not have a loving relationship with her mate, because white deer that are found are brought to be raised by the royal family and are assigned to marry the royal member closest in age to them. It seems that the relationship between Toguto and Slen fell through and they didn't go through with marriage for a long time, but in order to continue the tradition, when Alta was found, Toguto agreed to that marriage because it wouldn't work with Slen. According to the other stories, there isn't really a choice because white deer are rare BUT when there are multiple white deer close in age to the royal family member, it does seem that they get some choice on who to marry as long as they marry a white deer.

Naw ur good. I see where you come from my question is it seems that Tog can choose and so can Slen. Cuz Slen decided to not continue the marriage as he legit avoided Tog. And Tog didn’t seem to care as long as tradition remained but that’s why I was like huh
But suddenly with Alta it’s no choice for them both it’s like welp this is it I guess? (I dunno how to explain)
I get what you're trying to say. Yeah, based on the side Story about Toguto and Slen, their relationship was too broken and it seems both of them refused to get married - especially with Slen breaking the rules about only being with a member of the royal family. So in this situation Toguto and Alta were given no choice and were forced to go through with the marriage to prevent another failure when the opportunity came about. If Alta hadn't been found it seems Toguto would have just been married off to another wolf due to his relationship with Slen being so bad. Although I am not 100% sure, based on the raws, Slen seduced/drove off other marriage candidates for Toguto and, if my mtl was correct, Slen just couldn't do anything against tradition when it came to Alta, which is why that marriage occurred based on tradition.

I do find it odd that they made it seem like you find one white deer and that’s ur mate suddenly but it didn’t work with Slen so they found him Alta?? Like huh I thought there wasn’t a choice lol
I never really hated Toguto or however it’s spelled. He from the start looked like he liked someone else but being raised the way he had make him not care for ideas of love. I hope he can figure it out like it’s his first love and blush from embarrassment and learn what it is to have love.
