The mermaid'd protection is a bracelet that boots your strength and provides other conveniences that I forgot, but if you wear it for a long time, it will store all your magic power and strength. If someone else takes the bracelet and wears it, then they will gain all that power and strength while the og person is left powerless. Since Freyata's power is dying/disappearing, the emperor probably focused on the "sucking up of all your powers" function of the bracelet and made a different one to store Lyla's powers (since Lyla has Sienna's power and Freyata's power in her). I forget which chapter it is in, but this is his contingency plan to prolong/keep Freyata's powers alive for when it completely disappears. I also think the bracelet that the emperor made disables her use of magic since she told Helene that she had no choice, or she could still be keeping the promise she made to her mother.

It looked like Sienna made one to block the powers to protect her... but there was the scene where she was yelling at the Emperor about giving her the mermaid's protection so yes I think you're right his plan was to drain her to power himself. Part of me was wondering if it also had a connection to why Lyla's body became a host... since we kinda know now how she vacated the body but it's not 100% clear why there was a spell to bind another soul

I was thinking that too, the king is our true villain. He's wants our MC power for him self. Since is is waning, helene know this, and that is why she wanted MC to leave. Mom found out and that is why she died, king send the empress to kill her.

And that her mom caught onto the plot. Thus mom had to go, now if dear dad and empress worked together in the killing of MC mom that is up for grabs. But I have no doubt I my mind that he knew full well that what the empress was doing.

My only hope is that someone other the. Helene finds out and stops the dad. Because we can't trust her, I'm hoping for the ML. Or if they can't stop it.
