He never committed to anything with Ines, that’s why I don’t feel bad or uncomfortable. Just a info from novel:
1. Ines sexually assaulted Emiliano (detailed in novel; she comes to his room and coerces him into sex while her vagina is bleeding. Suddenly Emiliano falls for her the next day.) the manhwa covered this up. And that’s why those who read the novel, which lists Ines’s flaws more, dislike her. Some do and some don’t. I personally don’t because she’s a morally gray character and feels remorse, that’s why she doesn’t want to cross paths with Emiliano; the one she never loved.
2. Ines manipulated Carcel since young age; she wants him to cheat and she got her way because Carcel did go sleeping with women. He tried to pursue her when little but he wasn’t aware of his own feelings, and he also realized Ines never loved him. So why should he chase after a woman that wants to use him?
3. If Carcel hadn’t cheated, Ines wouldn’t be with him. And their engagement was a promise one sided, Carcel NEVER consented. People yap about consent and respect but do not consider Carcel’s consent and respect.
Many readers consider him a green flag ML—which he is for many reasons; the basic respect and understanding he gives to when it comes to Ines. Bare minimum but means a lot considering a lot of MLs are toxic. Being careful during their first time iirc, meanwhile Ines has little to no self care and doesn’t care if a man hurts her during sex but Carcel was going easy and made sure it wasn’t dry.
Other novel readers can explain better than me. I only read the manhwa and take what I know from the novel readers.
Nobody is justifying anything but there’s a huge explanation. And plus he isn’t obligated to commit to anything because it was all forced engagement but the marriage he committed to by choice / consent.
So if he had slept around while married, then I would be mad.
They honestly shouldn’t recommend this to you because both ML and FL are flawed people. Author even said that they’re two imperfect people who make up for each other’s imperfections. Of course, it also depends on your definition of that flag thing. These characters are more like human beings than the kind that are normally found in manhwa. You might want to pass on this.
It’s probably better that people looking for that flag thingie pass on this story. Manhwa also hid most of Ines’s flaws that they’re able to. Funnily, in the manhwa team interview, it was blatantly clear they’re Ines’s simps so that may have influenced their decision too. Only the actual novel author comes out repeatedly in the past to defend her characters equally and honestly.
Everything had their own explanations, but in the later chapters. As a fresh reader, of course it’s easy to misunderstand something and assume characters. Personally, I only felt iffy about Carcel FROM THE START because even though it’s true that she didn’t look like she cared one bit about him, it was still HIS choice to cheat. How do you manipulate someone to cheat?? iirc, she just completely lets him be or usually gives him a way to meet other women(social gatherings). It was HIS choice to be a playboy. I don’t understand why I keep seeing people say Ines was manipulating him to cheat, could you explain further how she did?
1. Where is this information that she didn’t love Emiliano? Like you, I’m only a manhwa reader so I interpret things I’ve only seen here. My interpretation was Ines was deprived of love since she’s only suffered in her past lifetimes, so when Emiliano confessed to her that night, she gave him a chance. Even ran off, married him(?) and had a baby. Felt remorseful as well that she killed her own child because they were already planning to get rid of it.
2. Reading further into the story, now I got a grasp that Carcel was doing this because he was bitter. He seemed like he genuinely pined for Ines, which he made the choice to cheat because he either wanted her attention or he wanted to get a reaction from her. “So why should he chase after a woman that wants to use him?” He doesn’t know to this time that he was part of Ines’ plan, and wasn’t he under the impression that Ines loved him but claimed that he didn’t like her at all?
3. Oh that’s a completely different topic. I don’t blame either of them for this because for Ines, not getting married immediately is frowned upon on as well so even if she did have a say in who she marries, she still had to marry regardless of who it is.
Yes, I agree with you, Carcel is a green flag now. I think people will misunderstand my initial comment and take it as hate towards him, because it’s not. It’s a joke. You said it yourself, it’s bare minimum to have respect for your partner so there’s no brownie points for that no matter what.
- “meanwhile Ines has little to no self care and doesn’t care if a man hurts her during sex but Carcel was going easy and making sure it wasn’t dry.” I’m sorry, but this statement rubs me the wrong way. Out of everything Carcel had said and done for her, how is this one of his selling points. Like wow, how great that he didn’t rape her. Plus, the meanwhile thing for Ines, I’m genuinely baffled. This woman was raped multiple times, vigorously without a care in the world and the crown prince even gave her a disease. It’s not that she “doesn’t care” it’s more like she doesn’t have expectations anymore because of how shit she was treated.
To wrap this up, I DO NOT HATE CARCEL. I genuinely love that man now. Both of them aren’t 100% flawless, have their own faults and we’ve already moved past that. I’ve grown fond of Carcel, and I also like Ines.
If one can’t forgive Carcel for his PAST errors (that people find to be an error), then how can they forgive Ines’s PAST errors? Both are imperfect as you said. It’s hypocrisy and double standards to hate on ML for one thing he did wrong and act as if the other did not.
I see way too many comments on this and other sites defending Ines/justifying some stuff she did while blaming Carcel for sleeping around.
1. It’s in the novel and many other novel readers have said it. It’s the manhwa’s fault as well for not covering the novel well because they’re biased. She gave him a chance = use him, a distraction sort of. But she’s only ever felt guilt for him because of what she did/her motive towards him in her past life. She NEVER loved him romantically, she will like anyone that shows her some affection. She’s deprived, and it’s only normal she’ll like and take those who like her back. In the novel, she only met Emiliano ONCE and Emiliano fell for her so quick, one day.
2. It doesn’t really matter if he knew or not, the whole ISSUE is that: Ines planned and we know, and the ENGAGEMENT is her forcing it. She used it to her advantage, no care whatsoever. So why should Carcel care? That’s why I do not feel that bad that he slept around. INES WANTED THAT TO HAPPEN, AND WHILE I CAN’t EXPLAIN AS GOOD AS THE NOVEL readers—yes in a way she manipulated him. Don’t forget that Ines was a grown woman in her new life’s kid body, she neglected Carcel after the engagement, made him feel unloved and much more, as I said, novel reader will explain better.
3. Yes she has to marry regardless I guess(?) but not really, I don’t know how the society in this historical theme views marriage when it comes to women but clearly she could choose who she married. And with her manipulation in mind and her plan in general, she chose Carcel. In novel she even felt guilty for thinking of using Carcel. WHY DO PEOPLE EXPECT RESPECT AND OBLIGATIONS FROM SOMEONE WHO DID NOT CONSENT TO ENGAGEMENT?
I came to like this story as I read further and now I’m caught on the latest chapters. My initial comment was meant to be a joke in the first place. Believe me, at a certain point I disliked Ines for a bit because she wasn’t “giving” Carcel a chance and was very nonchalant about everything. You also commented that the manhwa hid a lot that was in the novel but I haven’t read that, so every interpretation I had was what I’ve seen in this manhwa. Might have to read the novel for better understanding, then.
He’s always been a green flag, not NOW. I really think the Manhwa left out a lot because of their bias towards Ines. And even Korean readers who have read the novel itself has disliked Ines because it shows more there than in Manhwa.
Forget brownie points, it just shows Carcel has always been a decent man with respect. So I don’t get the forced hate by others. The thing is, Carcel cared for her when no other man in her life did. They were all too scared to be by her side or the other was too abusive and lack of care for how she felt.
She has no self care unintentionally, idk how to explain but her trauma has left her unable to function well and take care of herself, just having the new man she met expecting to be treated roughly during sex like the crown prince did to her.
Sure this is bare minimum but it’s HUGE for the men in this society in their story. So yeah it’s a big deal for me.
I like Ines a bit more or about equal just because I’m a huge fan of morally gray characters. Carcel is a green flag, he’s always been nice since a child. The novel explains better. I will never forgive the manhwa leaving out stuff.
A lot of people say they disliked Ines but I don’t think I’ve ever found myself disliking her for a reason—I love morally gray characters…maybe a bit too much. I enjoy stories when there are morally gray characters instead of the usual both of the Main couple being: “Good” “Normal”, morals accepted by our world, etc.
FYI: The novel is 600 chapters .
She’s nonchalant yes. And she also didn’t care. And the mendoza arc will explain beteee and reveal how much she planned or something towards Carcel, spoiler, DO NOT GO DOWN IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS**
Apparently that arc is where the mother of Carcel will talk about how Ines was indifferent to her son, her treatment towards Carcel and more. @StoryofMinglan explains better, that’s where I got my info from; the sexual assault by Ines towards Emiliano and the Mendoza arc, the period between the engagement proposal and to this timeline.
I think it’s just a personal viewpoint thing. You already mentioned that some people may like Ines, some people may not. People interpret things differently, and that is okay. It’s only for me that Carcel wasn’t completely good at the start based from what I’ve seen, I don’t encourage people to see it the way I do. Well, they’re a fine couple now so that’s that.
If the manhwa left out a lot of things, that’s on them. Now the readers have no choice but to take what is given to them so there really is no point in arguing. Have a nice day/night
There are people who try to push their narrative even after being explained, so I think some are just projecting really hard from their personal life and or just strong dislike towards “cheating” and can’t handle any other explanations; their whole focus is on cheating.
And I agree: They’re a fine couple now, so that’s that. Exactly!
And you have a nice day! ^^
THIS.
The whole Carcel cheated situation, if you look into other webtoons with an arranged marriage theme and the other party did not want the marriage you’d see the same cheating thing. These characters for me are realistic and like someone said even Ines is a morally gray character. For me, carcel is a green flag, their romance is something I have never seen in a webtoon and I am sooo looking forward to it. Read the novel, imo it’s a good read.
Imagine someone asks you to recommend a manhwa with a greenflag ml and you recommend this… and the first thing they see is Carcel getting caught cheating and the first few chapters are just him laying with other women how do you justify that plss
