Yep this happens in real life, cause my parents did this to me too, Fortunately it didn't fucked up my brain thanks to my big brother who reminds me that they're just fighting and just pretending the other one is dead

The idea that both parents would pretend the other is dead and keep it from their child is just mind-boggling. I mean, I know it’s fiction, but could something like that even happen in real life? What were they fighting over that would push them to such extremes? It’s not just unrealistic, it’s actually pretty cruel to the kid. Imagine what that does to their emotional well-being. That said, I can’t deny it’s a gripping plot—it definitely keeps you on edge. But honestly, I still can’t wrap my head around why they’d make those choices.
