Yes I thought the same as the comment above. I thought it was only for show because she kinda knows about Loneal and Alec's relationship or at least ships them so was staying engaging only to protect them/make sure Alec isn't forced into another engagement kinda thing??

for what i remember since i reread it on a daily basis, the fiance doesn't know about loneal and prince's relationship so she thinks that he wants to end the engagement suddenly cause he doesn't like her anymore which is why she didn't agree to end the engagement.
