I dont think he can fight how he did in his past life because he started at level one. If he fought similarly in such a weak state he would have died by now. So he's got to adjust and compensate for his lack of power by using his knowledge of the past until he's back to that level. He fights like an 'amateur' because he quite literally is physically an amateur, atleast in the sense of his level

Besides... even if he is a combat class he does depend on skills he doesn't have yet to be able to do so... and from what I saw he used his metal control more than cqc and swordmanship in the past... and his ability to strategize and command others. That's what got him that far and what he's been using while not strong enough...
Let me be honest. He, who was (1) the last savior of mankind, (2) the steel emperor, and (3) the returner, is actually quite disappointing. Of coz I don’t expect all MC should be overpowered, badass or what. But, he should at least fight decently. Don’t fight like some amateurs huhuu. Dude where’s your fight experiences?? Steel emperor should be a combat class right??? I got bored reading the fight scene
