As of now, we've switched to the past story-wise. In the present future, Ulster (Connie's fiancé) is talking to Scarlett's father and questioning him about why he killed Scarlett, because he's found evidence that the Count didn't bother to stop his own daughter's execution, despite knowing to answer extent that she was innocent.
Now, it has been revealed that not only was Scarlett innocent, but her father didn't believe so because it conveniences him - he thought the earrings as a coincidence he could take advantage of. This meant he could use her as a scapegoat and save Giran, the white-bearded Commander, and therefore - from his perspective - save a more valuable member so he and the King could stop the neighbouring kingdom from overthrowing the nation.
Tl;Dr: Political nonsense is taking place. The King and Scarlett's father (oh boy do I hope I'm spelling her name right) use Scarlett to save the army commander of their country, Adelbaide, so they have a better chance at defending it. Scarlet dies, at the expense of the kingdom, basically prolonging it's death sentence. However, it's still at risk - years later after Scarlett's execution - of being taken over by Faris, the neighbouring kingdom (as it used to be part of it).
I lost the plot ╥﹏╥ what is happening
