If you don't like the "rape" trope then maybe you should move on to another genre-- you're going to get that a lot here. Homosexuality isn't as easy as "oh I love you let's make love." There is so much more psychological shit that goes into it. Society's views, family, rumors and the such. The feeling of not wanting to drag someone who wasn't gay in the first place into "that" world and have them feel the hardships you had to go through because of it. In this case it's the overlapping of previous traumas that is causing a strong aversion. As someone who has suffered with this time and again I find it very unsavory when I come to the comment section of a pretty decent series just to see "RAPE" slapped all over every comment. OF COURSE IT IS GOING TO BE THAT WAY. For it to be more realistic since this isn't a fantasy or sci-fi tag it is GOING TO BE THAT WAY. ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE IN THE JAPANESE SOCIETY. The mc in this series is being a bigger person than you are being and that's pretty sad seeing as he's not even real. //huffs
Oh honey who hurt you.
Listen, i know being gay is difficult, believe me i know, but rape is rape. And what you're doing is normalizing it.
Rape in mangas isn't more realistic just because it happens in real life; rape is realistic when is treated as real and not as a trope to get characters together, that's unrealistic and harmful.
The mc is not "a bigger person" than me, the mc is an idiot, because he's written as such, and a victim, which he's propably never going to realize himself.
Look, the reason you see the word rape tossed very often in yaoi/bl manga is because there's actually, REALLY, a lot of rape in yaoi/bl manga.
Shocking, i know.
And sometimes that's ok, this is fiction and some people like reading about fictional rape, it's ok.
But if you don't call it as it is, rape, you're gonna end up hurting actual real life rape victims.
So instead of being so immature, getting all defensive about a manga that quite frankly isn't even that good and butting into an honest and legitimate comment/conversacion about real issues*, maybe use that energy in something more positive. Really.
*(Like actual rape culture or how rape as a trope is treated in BL.) Really.
Oh!! And i'm not even gonna mention the Yaoi =/= real life homosexuality topic.
Ohhh boy. Not with a ten foot pole, not today at least, or in this comment thread. Because i'm betting is gonna fall on deaf ears.
yeah but the thing is it's not a fictional thing..rape is real..and a manga is just a type of platform like a movie, or novel..i mean that's how we connect with stories because of our experiences and knowledge from the real world. That's how you decide whether you like things or not right? It's kinda weird to disregard something negative as fiction in order to justify someone liking it or thinking it's ok. It's fine to be ok with it but at the same time acknowledge it for what it is you know?
But that's the thing. I /have/ been raped. On multiple accounts since I was young. That's why I get so tilted whenever I see people tossing the word around so easily. Even in the stories that don't even include any form of abuse or show any signs of one character harming the other.
We've made it so easy to use that word these days. I've seen male friends of mine face life in prison 'cause a girl who couldn't keep her legs closed was found out to be a total slut and called rape on the last guy that had sex with her-- /consensual/ sex. I've even had female friends get put in jail under rape accusations that were completely false.
YES, I recognize rape. YES, I understand that it's a big no-no and shouldn't be normalized. BUT POINTING IT OUT EVERY SINGLE TIME ISN'T GOING TO STOP IT FROM HAPPENING IN YAOI. Sorry to burst your bubble but that's how it's going to be. Gay or lesbian relationships are NEVER going to be easy. Like I've stated before, there are too many things that play into it. Even if both sides want it there's always that high chance that one side is going to either not recognize their own feelings/not WANT to recognize their own feelings or they're going to be against it 'cause of societal views. As someone who has been reading this genre for well over 10 years I've seen quite a lot and trust me-- IT CAN BE WORSE. Take it for what it's worth. I bet you anything the author/artist of this series knows damn well what they are creating and would probably appreciate it if people would stop slandering their creations. You want fluff and rainbows? Go read shounen-ai. That's what it was made for.
If you want a perfect example of what I am talking about you should go read Smells like Green Spirit if you haven't already. It's a prime example of what I am trying to describe since I can't ever get the damn words out that I want to portray about this topic.
It's not even that I'm just tired of people pointing it out. Like we don't already know that it's got rape in it. 90% of yaoi is rape. If you don't like it then move along. At least most of the time there's no real harm. HEAVEN FORBID THEY TOUCH KILLING STALKING. Or any Harada works. Like sheesh, this is kindergarten crap compared to some of the things I've stomached in the past.
I also mentioned to a pal of mine who isn't even into yaoi that 80% out of the 90% of rape in yaoi is usually caused by the other party being a moron after finding out about the other person's feelings-- treating another human being's feelings lightly.
Something like;
"I love you"
"Uhm okay no I don't like you that way but we can still be friends and eat together and sleep together and bathe together---WHY ARE YOU TOUCHING ME THIS WAY YOU BETRAYED ME."
I'm not saying it's right but c'mon. Most of the time I end up feeling bad for the other guy instead of the victim 'cause I know the pain of being rejected by someone but having them not understand that now that the cards are out it's harder to keep yourself in check. Most of the time tho I just end up disappearing out of their lives 'cause I can't deal with it.
Once again tho for those in the back with their heads shoved up their asses; RAPE IS NOT OKAY. I AM NOT SAYING IT'S OKAY BUT IT'S ALSO NOT NECESSARY TO POINT IT OUT EVERY TIME. WE ARE NOT A SOCIETY OF GLASS ASSES. WE ARE GROWN UPS. WE RECOGNIZE IT AS SUCH SO LET'S BE GROWN UPS ABOUT IT, OKAY?
Next thing I know I'm going to be told that I'm a rapist for saying all this shit. Sheesh.
You say "let's be grown ups about it" but here you are and can't even respect people pointing out or saying they don't like it because of the rape and it's a fact that not everyone that reads this kind of manga are "adults" and there's young people out there that thinks this kind of behavior is fine cause it's normalized or even romantized by so many people.
And here you are saying is not right but at the same time defending it on the genre, as you said most yaoi have rape but there's still some that doesn't have it so it's possible to write a plot with sex without the rape but as long as there's people saying it's okay because it's fiction nothing will change much.
This is probably going to get me hated on, but I actually agree with you. No, rape is most definitely not okay in real life. I fully believe it is one of the most horrifying things that can happen to anyone. Even the so-called "nonviolent rape" is excruciatingly terrible, because it takes a person's control over their own body away from them. However, we are talking about a fictional story. As far as stories go, I don't always care for rape as a plot device. Sometimes, though, the use of rape as a plot device actually fits well into the story. It helps the reader create an emotional connection with the characters of the story. Yes, other methods could be used, but this is a subject that is known to quickly and deeply make that connection. Whether it's because the reader knows someone or has a personal experience, the emotions are strong and generally lightning fast. What I feel you are trying to say, to some extent, is: yes, it is rape, yes, it is wrong, but it insults are intelligence and moral ethics for people who believe they need to point out what we already know on every single story.
Besides, I have never agreed with the idea of "safe-zones". Yes, we should protect children, but adults demanding the same kind of protection you would provide a small child is counterproductive. It doesn't do anyone any good to coddle them. Even therapists and psychiatrists tell their patients they need to confront the source of their trauma. Life is hard, and people should be prepared for that reality. To go hide to pretend whatever you don't like isn't happening, does nothing to help prepare anyone for the harshness awaiting them.Offending someone doesn't actually cause any harm. It can, in fact, stimulate thought process and discussion. As long as someone's rights aren't being actively taken away from them, I believe it help more than hurt to have more of both of those actions.
Thinking rape is a good way to further a plot is wild like saying a person being raised is character building in reality your brains are so rotted from bl that you think it's ok to justify rape because it's fiction not to mention the VAST majority of the time the rape is added for the sake of rape you could literally lift it out of most stories and it would not change anything it's just added for fetishiser like you it dies not do anything for the plot or the characters in most instances and yet it's everywhere it's not normal and trying to justify it for the plot is sickening seek help
Yeah 'cause I got a notif from a topic I didn't recognize, saw the post was from 2017 and wanted to see which looney chucklefuck was dredging up a discussion that ended 7 fucking years ago lol
You off your meds or some shit?? How am I the weird one for stating that this person was 7 years too late for a fucking reply lol
He went from one rapist to another, also the "love (or in this case forced sexual violence) cures trauma/mental illnesses like ptsd or panic attacks trope" yeahhh, no.
