Yes ,he died at the beginning of the story. I'm not sure if this is an alt timeline were he didn't die, cause if you reread the first chapters, after "waking" up he has no memory of many events nor people. They come to his head similar to transmigration novels. But I'm not sure, its pretty confusing and I don't want to think at 1am
