i think part of the reason is the translation. assuming this book was originally in korean, they most likely used the term “noona” which refers to any female who is older than you, not strictly sister, but is translated that way. it’s like girls in korea calling their boyfriends “oppa” which translates to brother english. the translation is missing cultural nuance.
See I can’t ik they aren’t blood related but I think abt it like this. If I was in her shoes would I really wanna marry someone whom called me sister before?
