I think so too. Tha's why he was so afraid in the dark. Ailete was so scared of that entity without knowing that she actually saved him by releasing him from that helpless and dark situation.

Cause the loss of language for a 17th life is strange, unless it isn’t the 17th and he’d been trapped, silent, for centuries. It might also be why he asked her “which” regression he’s in. Cause I think I’d have a general recollection of dying 17 times…. But not if I’d died hundreds of times and returned to an unfamiliar time and setting.
