Yeah, the problem is that people can’t handle FLs who aren’t badass like Penelope despite her trauma. They want something realistic, then get the realism, but it’s not good enough because the FL still needs to be badass, even though that wouldn’t be realistic. They want variety in the way people handle their hardships/traumas and then get the variety, which also means that characters are very different and AREN’T cold and badass all the time — but that’s suddenly a problem. The hypocrisy is very strong with this one.

They want the same cookie cutter girlboss FL but won’t admit it, because admitting it would mean they want a Mary sue FL.

Penelope is badass and I admire her a lot, she isn’t dealing with her trauma she pushes it to the side and ignores it for the sake of survival. There is a difference between prolonging her reaction to the trauma to not die and not acknowledging the trauma at all, she acknowledge her suffering and trauma but she can’t take a break to heal from it if she doesn’t want to die.

And yeah I love cookie cutter FLs it’s great in days when I don’t want to think. There nothing wrong with loving those FLs, the problem starts when people starts to shit on other story settings and plots with more realistic and slow approaches to trauma (reading the comments on the manhwa “to my husband mistress” was awful, shitting on FL just because she didn’t get herself together after being betrayed, mind you it was only 12 chapters released at that time. it’s a really good manhwa and I like FL development as of recent chapter)
And they also shit on stories that don’t move fast and are more slow paced… like, there is a reason why writers want to flash out their characters more and situations and world building more. If they want unflashed world and cardboard characters there is a whole section in the book stores to those types of books.

I’m just so tired of their hypocrisy and bitching, I just want to read a story without seeing people shit on it. I miss the times when people just ignore what they didn’t like and just continue to scroll and didn’t leave their unnecessary comments on it…

Exactlyyy i dont even wanna look at the comments, its sad to think they can’t sympathize with the character thinking that the fml being mentally strong is not considered as a strong female lead.

I really don’t understand why people feel the need to comment awful things on things they don’t like ┑(￣Д ￣)┍ just move on. It’s that simple.

I seen some user going as far as using an extremely abusing and unnecessary language when giving spoilers from a biased perspective, like, idc if those spoilers are true (they aren’t and most of them were half truths and downright ridiculous lies done in bad faith) if you (general you) are using abusing language to tell them im not going to believe them. But some people do believe those spoilers and drops really good and entertaining stories and it’s really disheartening.

It wasn’t like that in 2017 it’s started in the recent years, people started to feel that their opinion have a significant influence on some kind and some of them just never learned to shut up since… like I get it internet culture is toxic, but we as a community in mangago can do better.

Also lots and lots and lots of them lack of common sense or any resemblance of critical thinking. Sometimes, it’s better NOT to over share and trauma dump on the internet in front of strangers… what happened to stranger danger? What happened to safety in the internet as a whole?

The way I’d give you a sloppy toppy because you summed it up so perfectly like I could never articulate myself this good. And you truly used the most perfect example of “ to my husband’s mistress”. They sh*t on the FL for literally going absolutely through it, when I’m 100% sure those people wouldn’t handle it any better. She got betrayed, “killed” and abandoned, so how is someone supposed to just get over it and become a badass. Like of course she’s going to cry a lot, break down and seem “weak” before being able to develop— and people sh*t on it for no reason because they expect the “badass” Penelope or some other badass FL who honestly just pushes her trauma aside. Again, the hypocrisy is real, because on one hand people want variety of characters and how they deal with emotions/trauma and other situations yet once they get this variety and more complexity, it’s suddenly not good enough because for example; the FL hasn’t got her sh*t together and is still very much traumatized. And then the hate comments start.

They want a FL who can get over her trauma in 2 chapters in the most unrealistic ways and when FL doesn’t fall into that pattern they shit on her.
Or when the FL does anything they don’t like.
They want a badass FL but they also want her to be nice and pure. They want a nice FL but they can’t stand when she TOO nice, they want a FL that will do a good revenge on the people that wronged her but when she does it in the most nasty and morally grey way they shit on her.
If FL takes time to plan her revenge and do it in slow burn way they shit on her because she isn’t fast enough.
They want a Mary sue FL and won’t admit it.

They want a fast paced story but they hate it when it’s fast paced and hate it when it’s slow paced.

There was few chapters in “why are you so obsessed with your fake wife?” Manhwa where FL met with someone in the same situation as her; the woman she met was her now husband wife in the previous timeline who was found to be a spy in that timeline (never mind the fact that the woman is manhwa only, she doesn’t exist in the novel)
So FL found out that woman is the same situation as her and befriended her. And the hate comments started immediately as she befriended the woman who flirted with her husband on the order of the woman father. (Like she didn’t flirt with him because she wanted to)
Like??? Aren’t we supposed to enjoy girls supporting girls? The two become friends and i enjoyed their short interactions in that arc.

It’s just feels like people started to think the FLs are THEM, and not like characters in stories and worlds so different from our world. And I get it, I immersed myself into stories too but at the same time I never forget that this is a fictional story that doesn’t have effects on my life nor I’m the FL. I read stories because I want to see what people creative minds have, what they can flash out and how the world is build.

Sorry for the long text btw, I have lots of thoughts on this topic and stuff.
