Because bl authors think this is the only way to hook readers and aren’t confident in their writing to convince readers to continue the story so they throw in some random ass smut. You can’t tell me otherwise because some of my fav bl stories don’t have to rely on smut to get my hook in reading but other factors in the story.

No, I want ROMANCE. A heart wrenching romance with an enjoyable plot. Smut is a plus but not a necessity... Plus it's just a rly bad opening that usually doesn't tell anything abt the story/characters lmao. If u want to read pure smut, u should just read hentai

I do read shoujo lmao. I am an avid reader of BL and there's PLENTY of great BL that have demonstrated that they don't need to rely on half-baked sex scenes to "hook" readers. BL is inherently a romance genre, so is it so bad to want romance and not sex sex sex?? I think u just should just go read gay hentai if u want to see two men have sex so badly... if u read a lot of bl, u should know it's such an overused opening lmao

A healthy combo of the two is good. I'm just saying authors should try a little harder in their storytelling rather than just some bland sex scene with zero context. 10% of the time, this hook works. The other 90% is just an eye roll. There's love in boys' love for a reason... if u like those kinds of openings, good for u. Enjoy reading all the sex scenes u want ig.
You’re absolutely so right and I feel your sentiment! Im so tired of reading openings like that and then the mc narrators like, “how did I end up in this mess??!” Like I don’t know dude I just got here. It’s just screams lazy writing and there’s so much more they could do that hooks us into reading the story. Like I don’t really care for these characters who are just mindless having sex in the first chapter I just started. It feels better to be rewarded.

I just want to say I completely agree with you all. Immediate sex scenes are a huge turn-off and really cheapen the story for me. Made my original post out of frustration with this annoying trope that is way too widespread these days
