Yeah the choice to phrase it that way is deliberate it's not in any way outright saying what his orientation is
I mean...he has attempted to check out his package and said he's good looking. He doesn't seem opposed. xD
His “not with men” doesn’t sound like he’s straight… It sounds/looks like he’s dated a man before and it didn’t go well. Those implications are MUCH different
