Stepson was a potential LIs in the 1st timeline but in the current timeline he never grew to romantically love bc Shuli, unlike the first timeline, Shuli acted as a proper Stepmother and mother figure for the estate, him and his siblings. Plus logically he could never pursue her romantically even if he wants to because he would set her to her death. Since it is viewed and considered incest. Even if they're not blood relatives it is still immoral. Plus everyone in the empire thinks it's incest even if they're not related. Taboo basically. An immoral scandal that whatever him and Shuli do could not change in their favor.
Plus their family is the richest one in court and is expected to be an example for others. If he pursue her romantically the emperor, church, court and common people will target them. Even if their the richest as seen before they cants get away with it.
Have you been reading up to date? It’s clearly Nora she’s in a mutual love with. There was like a whole sword fight between Jeremy and Nora over this. Then like at least 6 instances on intense romantic tension between her and Nora.
Actually deep down he very much loves shuri romantically but he was too much respect for her to act on those feelings so thankfully nothing blossoms between them
Actually no. Previously before the first trial, yes (3 years ago). But after, it shifted to him devoting himself to further himself from the crush he hasn't fully acknowledge or concretize for her. Deeply no. He was never deeply view her as a spouse or lover. Because 1. he is a kid 2. he knows and is aware shuli is targeted in court he forced himself to erase those feelings for his families and Shuli's sake.
That's the reason he started addressing himself as her son and vow to be her knight for loyalty and familial/friendship affection and be the best son for her. He did love her but it NEVER BLOSSOMED TO BE DEEP ROMANTIC LOVE. (man and woman kind of love). Like his vow in season 1, changes his affection trajectory and nature. As of now and during his fight with Nora, what he held for Shuli is not romantic love and fighting to be her man.
Just gonna add that I hope you aren't confusing this Jeremy and Jeremy from the first timeline who never got over his crush for Shuli. Those two are completely different people.
Simply speaking the seed of love was there. It wasn't deeply rooted it was more a crush mixes with envy and hate. To blossom and take roots it needs years. In this timeline both romantic crush, respect, trust and friendship took root. As the story progress. The later feelings overpowered the romantic one due circumstances and his own vow to devote himself to be a good son that won't get Shuli in a humiliating trial again. Trust, friendship, respect, devotion (not all devotion is love), family love blossomed. Romantic love is still a bit there but after his confrontation with Nora that small root is cut of as he acknowledge Nora etc etc.
